A fast and powerful @OscarDeLaHoya linked up with new trainer Emanuel Steward to make the first defence of his WBC welterweight title #OnThisDay in 1997 and belted out David Kamau in two rounds at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The LA-based Kenyan challenger hit the canvas twice as De La Hoya silenced those who claimed he couldn’t hit at 10st 7lbs.
“Kamau got caught when he pulled back,” said Steward. “Left hooks set it up. Oscar’s best punch is the left hook.”
It was the first stoppage defeat for Kamau.
